The state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) began the sale of essentials at subsidised rates across the country from Tuesday on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

“The TCB today started the commodity sale operation across the country, including the capital, ahead of the holy Ramadan at lower prices compared to those at the retail markets,” said M Shekhabur Rahman, chief officer (commercial) of TCB.

On April 21, the Commerce Ministry gave an instruction to the TCB for beginning the programme from April 23 and to continue it until June 3.

In the first phase, the corporation has fixed the selling price of per liter edible oil at Tk 85, sugar per kg Tk 47 and lentil per kg Tk 44, according to an official release.

Every day the sale programme will begin from 10 am and it will continue till 6pm, the release said.

Besides, the TCB will sell chick-pea and dates at the prices of Taka 60 and Taka 135 per kg respectively. The sales will begin before five days of the Ramadan.

Under the programme, the TCB will sell 2000-2500 tons of edible oil, 2000 tons sugar, 1000-1100 tons lentil, 1500 tons chickpea and 100 tons dates.

A total of 2827 dealers will sell these commodities at 187 spots across the country with goods loaded on trucks at 35 spots in the capital, 10 spots in Chattagram, five spots each in all the divisional cities and two spots each in all the district headquarters.

Apart from this, the TCB essentials will also to be sold from 10 sale centers-three in Dhaka city and the rest are located at other divisional headquarters, during the holy Ramadan and before the Eid-ul Fitr.
