Ten most traded cos account for 30pc transactions on DSE

The ten most traded companies grabbed more than 30 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with Fortune Shoes leading the turnover chart.

Market analysts said investors' appetite for Fortune shares has increased ahead of the declaration of its quarterly earnings amid positive expectations.

The board of directors of the company will hold a meeting on April 28 to consider, among others, un-audited financial statements of the company for the third quarter (Q3) period ended on March 31, 2019.

According to statistics available with the DSE, 5.86 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded on Thursday, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 228 million, which was 5.95 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The company's share price closed at Tk 38.50 each on Thursday, advancing 0.26 per cent over the previous session.

In the last one month, its share price, however, rose 17 per cent defying the bearish market trend.

The company's share traded between Tk 27.70 and Tk 40.40 in the last one year.

Monno Ceramic came second on the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 168 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 245.20, registering a rise of 7.87 per cent over the previous day.

The National Tubes clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 138 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.97 per cent to close at Tk 124.80 each.

The Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 130 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 158.10 each, advancing 1.34 per cent.

Brac Bank notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 97 million changing hands. The bank's share price rose 0.95 per cent to close at Tk 63.90 each.

The turnover of Fine Foods was Tk 83 million. The company's share price inched up 0.22 per cent to close at Tk 45.60 each.

The United Power featured a turnover of Tk 82 million. The company's share closed at Tk 281.10 each, shedding 4.48 per cent over the previous day.

Active Fine Chemicals featured a turnover of Tk 69 million. The company's share closed at Tk 27.60 each, losing 3.37 per cent over the previous session.

The turnover of Shurwid Industries was Tk 66 million. The company's share closed at Tk 37.90.

Jamuna Bank also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 58 million changing hands. The bank's share price advanced 0.52 per cent to close at Tk 19 each.
