Ten most-traded cos capture 29pc turnover

Ten most-traded companies captured more than 29 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday while Fortune Shoes topped the chart.

Market insiders said investors continued to show their appetite on Fortune Shoes shares after the company posted a 35 per cent earnings growth in January-March, 2019 quarter disclosed recently.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for January-March 2018.

In nine months for July 2018-March 2019, its EPS was Tk 1.67 as against Tk 1.19 for July 2017-March 2018.

A total of 4.49 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded on the day, generating a turnover of more than Tk 174 million, which was 5.98 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 2.90 billion on Wednesday which was Tk 3.51 billion in the day before.

The company's share price closed at Tk 38.70 on Wednesday, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

The company's share traded between Tk 27.70 and Tk 40.40 in the last one year.

The Fortune Shoes, which was listed on the DSE in 2016, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.25 billion, authorised capital is Tk 1.50 billion and the total number of securities is 124.93 million.

The sponsor-directors own 30.93 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 11.59 per cent and the general public 57.48 per cent as of April 30, 2019.

Brac Bank followed next, with shares worth Tk 98 million changing hands. The bank's share closed at Tk 58.60, advancing 2.10 per cent.

JMI Syringes clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 97 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 6.13 per cent to close at Tk 339.20 each.

United Power emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 94 million changing hands. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 324.40 each, advancing 1.47 per cent.

Eastern Cables notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 93.60 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 3.13 per cent to close at Tk 344.90 each.

The turnover of SK Trims Industries was Tk 74 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 51.10, losing 2.48 per cent over the previous day.

Square Pharmaceuticals featured a turnover of Tk 60 million. The company's share price inched down by 0.04 per cent to close at Tk 248.80 each.

Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 57 million. The company's share closed at Tk 230.80 each, shedding 0.35 per cent over the previous session.

The turnover of recently listed Runner Automobiles was Tk 55 million. The company's share price fell 2.51 per cent to close at Tk 97.30 each.

Power Grid Company also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 51 million changing hands. The state-run company's share price advanced 1.50 per cent to close at Tk 60.60 each.
