Ten most-traded cos grab 28pc of weekly turnover

Fortune Shoes remains on top of the chart

The ten most-traded companies accounted for nearly 28 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, with Fortune Shoes making it to the top of the list for the second straight week.

Market insiders said investors continued to chase after Fortune Shoes stocks after the company reported a 35 per cent earnings growth for January-March 2019 quarter.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for the same quarter in 2018.

In the nine-month period from July 2018 to March 2019, the company's EPS was Tk 1.67 as against Tk 1.19 for the same period from July 2017 to March 2018.

According the DSE data, 34.69 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded during the week, generating a turnover of more than Tk 1.33 billion, making up 6.20 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 21.45 billion in the outgoing week, up from Tk 15.33 billion in the week before.

The company's share price closed at Tk 38.50 on Thursday, the last trading session of the week, soaring 4.05 per cent over the previous week.

The Fortune Shoes, listed on the DSE in 2016, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

Monno Ceramic came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 682 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 236.50 each, advancing 4.0 per cent over the previous week.

The recently listed Esquire Knit Composite clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 618 million changing hands. The company's share closed 11.57 per cent higher at Tk 51.10.

The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 617 million changing hands. The state-run company's share closed at Tk 50.50 each, gaining 4.55 per cent.

Power Grid Company notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 513 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 3.45 per cent to close at Tk 63 each.

The turnover of Indo-Bangla Pharma was Tk 478 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 28 each, advancing 7.69 per cent over the previous week.

The National Tubes featured a turnover of Tk 440 million. The company's share closed at Tk 121.70 each, shedding 0.16 per cent over the previous week.

The National Polymer featured a turnover of Tk 409 million. The company's share closed at Tk 107 each, gaining 1.13 per cent over the previous week.

The turnover of Genex Infosys was Tk 409 million. The company's share closed at Tk 47.90 each, shedding 0.20 per cent over the week before.

The Legacy Footwear also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 372 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 7.61 per cent to close at Tk 134.40 each.
