Police say three people have been killed in an alleged shootout with RAB in Jessore’s Abhaynagar, but the families of the dead claim that they were taken and murdered by the elite security force.

“They were killed in a shootout with RAB-6 in the Bagda field area early on Saturday,” said Jessore Additional Superintendent of Police Salauddin Sikdar.

Officials have yet to identify the dead.

But, according to Naowapara Municipal Jubo League Organisational Secretary Azim Sheikh, one of the victims was his older brother. Azim Sheikh claims his brother Habibur Rahman Sheikh, 42, and two others were taken and killed by RAB.

“People in plainclothes identifying themselves as RAB personnel detained them from their homes on Thursday. Then they disappeared. We only heard the news of their deaths on Saturday morning.”

The two others were Sumon Patwari, 44, and Abul Kalam, 47, bdnews24 quoted him as saying.

Police official Salauddin Sikdar says the bodies have been taken to Jessore Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
