Tofail leads business team to Cambodia

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed left Dhaka for Cambodia on Tuesday along with a high-level business delegation, including ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman, to attend a bilateral meeting with the business leaders of Cambodia, says a press statement.

Cambodia's Commerce Minister Pan Sorasak will lead the Cambodian delegation at the meeting to be held today (Wednesday).

Saida Muna Tasneem, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand and Cambodia, will also join the bilateral business meeting.

The Bangladesh business delegation members include Rokia Afzal Rahman, Vice-President, ICC Bangladesh; Mohammad Fazlul Azim, Managing Director, Azim Group; Matiur Rahman, former president, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Chairman and Managing Director, Uttara Group of Companies; Abdul Hai Sarker, Managing Director, Shohagpur Textile Mills Limited and former president, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association; Mohd. Arshad Ali, Managing Director, The Merchants Limited; Md Fazlul Hoque, Managing Director, Plummy Fashions Limited and former president, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA); and Mohammed Abdul Awal, Chairman, Bengal Shipping Line Ltd and former president, Bangladesh-Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BPCCI).

Ataur Rahman, Secretary General, International Chamber of Commerce - Bangladesh, and Ajay Bihari Saha, General Manager, International Chamber of Commerce - Bangladesh, also accompanied the delegation.

On the sidelines of the bilateral business meeting, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will also inaugurate an ICC workshop on 'International Trade Finance and Development of Global value Chains' jointly organised by ICC Bangladesh; Trade, Training & Research Institute (TTRI) of Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia (TTRI); Institute of Banking and Finance of Cambodia and Asian Development Bank (ADB).

ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman will deliver inaugural speech at the workshop. The workshop will be held on April 25-27.

Some 140 participants will be attending this three-day event. They include 50 bankers from Bangladesh, 35 bankers from Cambodia, three from Myanmar and Thailand and 50 participants from the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia, and representatives of SMEs.

The delegation is expected to return to Dhaka on April 29.
