Transport’s share in GDP drops in FY19

Share of transport and communication sector in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) dropped marginally in the current fiscal year, according to the provisional estimation of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

It showed that share of ‘transport, storage and communication’ dropped to 10.98 per cent in FY19, which was 11.13 per cent in FY18.

The value of the sector is estimated at TK 1.16 trillion in the current fiscal year, which was Tk 1.09 trillion in FY18.

The GDP of the transport and communication sector has been registered at 6.88 per cent in this fiscal year.

Land transport occupied more than 70 per cent of the sector’s total share followed by post and telecommunications.

The value of the land transport is estimated at Tk 744.25 billion in the current fiscal year, while it was estimated at Tk 272.53 billion in  the same period of the last fiscal year.

The country’s provisional GDP has been estimated at Tk 11.05 trillion for the current fiscal year.
