Work on to recover Covid-induced losses in tourism sector

Bangladesh Tourism Board has been working under a 'Tourism Recovery Plan' in a bid to recover the Covid-induced losses in the tourism sector, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali.

The board has prepared 20 guidelines under the plan and is implementing various programmes, he said, adding that the country's tourism and allied sectors are recovering.

Mr Ali made the comments during a press briefing at the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation headquarters in the city's Agargaon area on Monday.

The state minister was briefing the media about various programmes undertaken by the government to celebrate the World Tourism Day today (Tuesday), a press statement said.

The country will celebrate the day through a wide range of activities. This year's theme is 'rethinking tourism'.

The Parjatan Corporation has declared a 30 per cent discount on its various services, including food festivals, live cooking shows and accommodation in its hotels and motels.

The state minister said the government has been implementing various programmes to revive the tourism sector, which was hit hard due to the Covid pandemic.

The country's National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has recently recommended lifting the restrictions on international tourists to Bangladesh, he told the press.

To celebrate the day, a colourful rally will be held in Agargaon followed by discussion on the day to be held at the Parjatan Corporation.

Besides, national dailies will publish special supplements to make people aware of the tourism day.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization has been celebrating Septem-ber 27 as the tourism day since 1980 marking the date as the founding day of the organisation.
