Workshop arranged by Chittagong University Debating Society held successfully

Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) has arranged a 3-months long workshop named ‘Marks 17th CUDS Debating and Public Speaking Workshop- 2022.’ The closing ceremony and prize distribution programme were held at the FBA (Faculty of Business Administration) auditorium of Chittagong University (CU).

Professor Dr Shireen Akhter, CU's honourable Vice-Chancellor, was the chief guest at the workshop. Benu Kumar De, the Honourable Pro Vice-Chancellor of CU, also attended the Programme. Besides, the whole programme was patronized by Dr ABM Abu Noman, former Dean of law faculty of CU, who also acted as the moderator of CUDS.

More than 700 students of CU actively participated in the 3-months long workshop, where they were trained in debate and public speaking.  The entire workshop was divided into 3 phases where in the first phase, the students got introduced to basic concepts of Bengali and English debate. 

Moving forward to the second phase, the students were divided into small groups where they got some grooming sessions supervised by experts in those fields. In the third and last phase, they got the opportunity to participate in a competition on public speaking and both Bengali and English debate.

In the novice Bengali debate segment, team ‘Fighters’ became champion, and team ‘Alokbortika’ became runner-up. And in the novice English debate segment, ‘Tintin Party’ secured the title. The public speaking segment winners are Radetum Khan Ibtesham, Md. Sadik Rahman, and Aheli Azman. Besides, the debaters of the tournament are Md. Abdul Gaffar, Md. Nafiz Imtiaz and Mahmoda Akter, while Jannatul Ferdous became the debater of the final. 

Professor Dr Shireen Akhter, Vice-Chancellor of CU, said, "Debate is a significant factor for creating creativity and developing the intellect and thinking of the students. And such workshop arranged by CUDS is undoubtedly worth of appreciation." She added that the CU authority will always support that type of activity as it plays a vital role for the students.

Md Hasib Khan, President of CUDS Said, "In our workshop, we get a huge response from the participants, which is a matter of pride for us. We had tried to provide them required ideas about the debate." He further said that though the workshop has ended, the regular practices will be continued on each scheduled day to get the participants in touch with debate.

Marzook-E-Elahi, Associate Media and Online Affairs Secretary of CUDS, believe that debate assists in expanding the knowledge of students, which ultimately helps them to explore their hidden talents. 

He said, "We not only end up the workshop by giving some elaborative sessions; rather we provided some grooming sessions so that the participants can catch their mistakes easily. And the learning from the workshop will be helpful for them in their future.”

The participants and winners of the workshop in different segments received their certificates. And at the end of the workshop, a cultural programme was organised where different cultural events were held.
