The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted 8.0 billion Sri Lankan rupees (22 million US dollars) to support 1.2 million farming families in Sri Lanka, the President's Media Unit (PMD) has said.

The PMD said this on Wednesday adding that the ADB provided the grant following a request made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The PMD said the money will be deposited into the farmers' accounts next week, reports Xinhua.

The bank approved an emergency assistance loan of 200 million dollars in August, and earlier this month Sri Lanka received a 42,000 tonnes muriate of potash fertilizer shipment as a part of the ADB's emergency assistance to Sri Lanka.
