CHANDPUR: The authority of newly-established Chandpur University of Science and Technology (CUST) has decided to start the admission process for honours courses from the upcoming academic session.

The university will start its journey with opening of three departments such as Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

A total of 30 students will be enrolled for each department. Later, the number of seats will be increased in phases and few more departments will also be opened to satisfy the needs of the new generation.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Masum Akhter said an advertisement for admission of students will be put in local papers just after the publication of the results of HSC and its equivalent exams.

"So far about 60 acres of land have been acquired for building this university. Teachers will be recruited soon and the admission process will start in rented houses beside the campus," he added.

At initial stage, classes will be held in rented houses. Academic building, administrative building and student hostels will also be constructed on and around the university campus within a shortest possible time. The authorities have already selected the sites for these buildings and acquired the land.

The VC also said, "If corona cases rise again, we are ready to follow health guidelines and go ahead with the normal academic activities. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni is taking steps for the development of the university."

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a public meeting at Chandpur Stadium in 2018 pledged that a government medical college and a university of science & technology would be set up in Chandpur.

Accordingly, this university has been set up just beside Chandpur-Haimchar Road at Bohoria village under Luxmipur union in Sadar upazila after a bill on it was passed in Parliament.

In 2019, classes for the 1st batch of MBBS course at Chandpur Medical College started on the premises of Chandpur 250-bed General Hospital.
