Film producer, director and censor board member Rana Hamid died of cancer at a hospital in the capital on Saturday night.

He had been suffering from stomach cancer and kidney related complications for long, BSS reported on Sunday citing family sources.

He made several films including popular ones like ‘Masud Rana Ekhon Dhaky’ and ‘Dhakar Rani’.

Rana was a former Director of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) and was also a member of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association.

He will be buried at his native village in Netrokona following a Namaz-e-Janaza later today (Sunday).

Meanwhile, information minister and Awami League joint general secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has expressed deep shock at the death of the filmmaker.

In a condolence message on Sunday, Hasan prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
