A Dhaka court on Wednesday issued arrest warrant against scam-hit e-commerce platform Alesha Mart chairman Manjurul Alam Sikder in a case filed over cheque dishonour.
Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Sayed Mostafa Reza Nur passed the order as Alesha Mart chairman didn’t appear before the court complying its earlier summon order.
The court asked the authorities concerned to submit a compliance report regarding the arrest of Manjurul Alam on March 27 next.
According to the case documents, the plaintiff ordered one motorcycle from the e-commerce site and paid the price given on the site in advance. But the e-commerce site failed to supply the motorcycle in due time, subsequently gave him one cheque of Tk 0.163 million.
The plaintiff tried to cash the cheque. However, it was bounced from the bank. Then he sent a legal notice to the Alesha Mart claiming his money. As he didn’t get any response from the respondents he filed a case with the court on August 22 in 2022.
Taking the allegation in cognizance, the court issued a summon order against Manjurul Alam to appear before it on January 25. However, he didn’t appear before the court on Wednesday.
Lawyer Miah Hossain appeared in the court proceedings on behalf of plaintiff Tofazzal Hossain, a private service holder.
