The High Court (HC) today (Sunday) issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why it shall not scrap the lower court bail given to contractor Shahadat Hossain, an accused in a case lodged over sensational Rooppur pillow scam.

A High Court division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order after holding hearing on a plea filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), challenging the lower court order.

ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan moved the plea before the court, while Barrsiter Shafique Ahmed and Mahbub Shafique argued for Shahadat Hossain, proprietor of Sazin Construction. Deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the state.

“A Pabna court on August 27 granted the accused bail in the case. We had filed the plea to cancel his bail,” ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan said.

The ACC on December 12, 2019, filed the case with its Pabna integrated office on the charges of plundering money of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant’s housing project, and arrested 13 people, including Shahadat, on that day, reports BSS.
