Virtual court hearings: 6,562 get bail in five days

Different lower courts in virtual hearings across the country granted bail to 6,542 people in the five days to Thursday (May 31 to June 04).

Md Saifur Rahman, special officer of High Court Division, confirmed this to the Financial Express (FE) on Saturday morning.

The courts also settled 14,340 bail applications during the period of time under review.

A total of 1,714 people got bail in Dhaka division that witnessed settling of 3,429 bail applications.

Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Tribunals, settling 321 applications, granted bail to 126 people.

Apart from this, different children courts, settling 102 applications, ordered bail to 63 people.

The Supreme Court suspended the operation of all courts as part of the government efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus since March 26.

However, the court proceedings began through videoconference on May 11 after President Abdul Hamid promulgated an ordinance on May 10 that allows all courts to conduct trial proceedings through videoconference and other digital means.
