Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) has decided to include two new items under the mandatory quality certificate, considering the growing demand of the products among users.

The products are solar module or panel and invertor.

The 35th council meeting of BSTI last week approved the decision.

It also approved fees for ensuring quality of 43 products that were made mandatory earlier, setting up its offices at regional and district levels, appointing manpower, and establishing labs in Cumilla, Cox's Bazar, Faridpur and Mymensingh districts.

A high official of BSTI told the FE that Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun had presided over the meeting.

The minister called upon the BSTI officials to maintain quality of the products in order to keep the positive images of the country in other parts of the world.

He stressed the need for ensuring quality of products for increasing export.

The minister instructed the BSTI authorities to ensure certification of halal products that are being exported.

He suggested that BSTI strengthen their activities for ensuring quality of products from grassroots to districts level.

Earlier, in October last year, the BSTI in its 34th council meeting had also included 43 essential products under mandatory quality certificate. The products are low fat milk, flavored milk, ice lolly, natural Mahdi dishwashing liquid, gold, liquid toilet cleaner, nail polish, cotton sari made in power loom, passengers car tyres and rims, power transformer and others.

Vice-Chairman of BSTI Council and Industries Secretary KM Ali Azam and BSTI Director General Dr Md Nazrul Anwar, among others, were present.
