Dhaka bourse opens marginally lower ahead of Eid

Dhaka bourse opened marginally lower on Wednesday as investors opted for booking some profit on quick-gaining issues on the eve of Eid holidays.

Today (Wednesday) is the last trading day before Eid holiday. However, trading on the bourses will remain closed only Thursday as the market will resume from Sunday (May 16), officials said.

The market opened with a negative trend as DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), fell 12.23 points or 0.21 per cent to stand at 5,712 points within the first hour of trading when the report was filed at 11 :00am.

Two other DSE indices saw a negative trend till then with the DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 17 points to reach 2,177 and the Shariah Index (DSES) shed 1.92 points to stand at 1,269 points.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 5.28 billion within the first hour of trading at 11:00 am.

Of the issues traded till then, 140 advanced, 128 declined and 80 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.

Beximco - the flagship company of Beximco Group - was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 385 million changing hands followed by NRB Commercial Bank, National Feed Mills, Fortune Shoes and GBB Power.

However, the port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) witnessed a positive trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-gaining 12.82 points to stand at 16,556, also at 11:00 am.

Of the issues traded till then 91 advanced, 58 declined and 42 remained unchanged with Tk 150 million in turnover.
