A 23-year-old civil engineer Perala Manasa Reddy from Telangana, India has taken an initiative to build ‘OPods’ - a sort of micro dwelling pipe.
She used two round large concrete pipes like those used in building sewerage lines and built a house that has everything necessary for a modern lifestyle. It consists of one bedroom with a built-up area of 116 square feet.
This affordable mini house is built with the help of two concrete sewerage pipes with a diameter of 2 thousand millimeters and length of 2.5 meters.
Manasa has prepared 12 different designs for this mobile housing, suitable for different purposes.
Her OPod has everything - dining space, kitchen, bedroom and washroom. The house is also provided with electricity supply, gas and drainage. The movable house will start from 3 lakh rupees or around 3.5 lakh Bangladeshi taka and can be made in only 15 days.
Everyone has a dream of owning a house and Manasa wants to help that dream come true.
“When I started looking for funding for the project, everyone asked me that since you don’t have a father, what happens when you fail to complete the project? Who will give us a guarantee?” Manasa told the BBC.
Despite all the negativity, Manasa completed her project, and her startup has received orders for over 100 houses already. Even some hotels and real estates of India ordered her houses.

Born in a poor family at Bommakal village in Telangana’s Karimnagar district, Perala Manasa completed her B.Tech (civil engineering) from Lovely Professional University in May 2020.
Her single mother is the inspiration behind her success and she also thanks Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) for the education that enabled her to dream.
