Stock brokers have agreed to work towards increasing liquidity support for the stock market to ensure its stability and development.

They came up with this assurance at a meeting with the officials of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) held at its office in the city on Monday.

The representatives of DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA) told the meeting that they would play an active role in boosting institutional investments in the market.

To enhance liquidity support as part of their efforts, the stock brokers will contact the investors having inactive BO (beneficiary owner's) accounts and pursue them to return to the market, said a BSEC official.

The stock brokers will also put in efforts to increase their own investments as per their capacity, he said.

Besides, the stock brokers will organise awareness programmes in different districts to woo investors, he added.

Contacted, the chief executive officer of a leading brokerage firm said the overall market situation was discussed at the meeting.

"The BSEC also wanted to know our clients' sentiment. The stock brokers told the meeting that they will remain active to keep the market vibrant," he said.

BSEC commissioner Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting attended by BSEC executive director Mohammad Rezaul Karim, DBA president Richard D' Rozario and other members of the association.

The meeting was held as part of the BSEC's drive to enhance liquidity support for the market.

Earlier, the securities regulator also held meetings with asset management companies, merchant bankers and high net-worth individuals.

They assured the securities regulator of taking steps to boost the liquidity support.
