The Thai guava peasants of Tentulia under Panchagarh are happy over the good market price of the fruit this season.

A good number of farmers who used to cultivate T-Aman, Boro, greens or other seasonal fruits have started farming the tasty fruits due to its high profit.

Local agri officials are trying to motivate the growers to bring more land under the farming of Thai guava to make more profit.

Saplings should be planted four to five feet distance in Bengali months Falgun and Chaitra. Regular watering will ensure a healthy growth of saplings, the officials added.

Upazila agriculture officer Jahangir Alam said soil of the area is favourable for Thai guava cultivation.

"We have motivated the root-level farmers to bring the more land under the fruit farming round the year", he added.

"I have started cultivating Thai guava on my 50 decimals of land about five year back", said Ataur Rahman of Kalony village. He said, "I have already earned Tk 0.12 million this season and expect to make more if weather remains favourable till November."

Each kg of the fruit is being sold Tk 50 to Tk 70 in the retail market, he also said.
