Evaly welcomes decision on taking payments after product delivery

Evaly has welcomed a decision taken by the government to introduce new rules so that the e-commerce firms take payments only after delivering products to customers.

Welcoming the decision, founder and CEO of the e-commerce platform Mohammad Rassel expressed his hope that this initiative will benefit the entire ecosystem including customers, merchants and marketplaces involved in the sector, according to a press release.

“Decisions from any regulator will apply not only to Evaly but to everyone. We appreciate it,” he added.

“There is no e-commerce policy in Bangladesh so far, for which Evaly itself has been advocating for a long time. We believe that today's decision is the first step in formulating that policy,” the Evaly CEO said.

“Also, an SOP service will be developed through Bangladesh Bank soon. So that payment is not taken before delivery of the product. Those who have a bank or credit card will control the payment,” Mohammad Rassel said.

Earlier on Thursday, the Ministry of Commerce decided to introduce new rules forcing e-commerce firms to take payments only after delivery of goods to the buyers.

As per the decision, Bangladesh Bank will control these transactions.

The decision was taken at a meeting on Thursday with the presence of representatives from the WTO Cell under the commerce ministry, Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and e-commerce traders’ platform E-Cab.
