The final working day before the long Eid holiday now carries a distinctly different festive vibe at offices. Amid work pressure, one of the main missions for junior colleagues becomes banding together to collect salami from their seniors.

These exchanges often create light‑hearted moments and cherished memories. While there was once a tradition of giving salami in crisp new banknotes, in recent years, like many other things, technology has transformed salami exchanges.

For several years now, as Eid draws near, one slogan continues to echo: “Eid er Chand Akashe, Salami Din bKash a” (Send salami thru bKash, as crescent moon for Eid sighted).

Zahidul Islam, an employee of a private organisation, says, “Exchanging salami with people I work closely every day adds an extra layer of joy just before Eid. There was a time when we rushed to banks for new notes; now we simply add money to our bKash accounts in advance. Digital salami brings special happiness to juniors- especially Gen‑Z colleagues, and thanks to bKash, it has also become much easier to send salami to younger relatives, neighbours, nieces and nephews who live far away.”

This year, Kainat Arita has just turned fourteen. With her mother’s support, she recently opened a bKash Student Account. Kainat shares, “Last year, everyone sent my salami to my elder sister’s phone. But this year, I have my own bKash account, so I’ll receive salami directly in my own account.”

Like Kainat, millions of customers are now using bKash to send Eid salami. During Eid‑ul‑Fitr 2025, nearly one million people sent salami along with Eid cards via the bKash app, according to bKash Ltd. Of them, 55% are women.

Meanwhile, 30% of the people sent salami on Chand Raat (the evening before Eid day), nearly 48% on Eid day, and the rest over the following two days. Besides, Gen-Zs to Baby Boomers, people from all age group are widely using bKash to send salami to the dearest ones.
