The first-ever biannual election of the Government ICT Officers’ Forum, an organisation of first-class gazetted ICT officers employed in the government ICT sector, was held recently.
The organisation got a 17-member committee through the election held at Sher Bangla Nagar Adarsh Mohilla College in Dhaka on Saturday.
Md. Tomig Uddin Ahmed, Senior System Analyst at the Planning Department, was elected as the new chairman, while Mohammad Ahsan Habib Suman, System Analyst at the National Board of Revenue, was chosen as general secretary, according to a press release.
Despite the organisation having over 1,000 members, only 432 members cast votes. The election, which saw 31 candidates competing for 17 positions across six categories, was conducted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Chief Election Commissioner SM Sahid, System Analyst from the Road Transport and Highways Department, announced the results at 10:56 p.m. Following the tally, it was revealed that the Tomig-Suman panel won all positions unreservedly.
Other office bearers are Vice Presidents Md. Shahin Miah, Senior Maintenance Engineer at the Cabinet Division, Mihir Kanti Sarkar, System Analyst at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, and Abu Rayhan from the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment. The Treasurer position was secured by Mr. Zikra Amin BPAA, a programmer from the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms. The Secretaries elected were Mr. Md. Moniruzzaman, a programmer from the Directorate of Posts, and Mr. Md. Zakir Hossain, a programmer from the Department of ICT.
The Executive Members elected include Azimul Islam, a programmer from the Election Commission, Mr. Md. Aminul Islam, Assistant Programmer at the Ministry of Industries, Mr. Md. Shamsuddin Ahmed, Assistant Maintenance Engineer at the Land Reforms Board, Mr. Mohammad Rafid Shahriar, Assistant Programmer at IMED, Ministry of Planning, and Mr. Md. Shariful Islam Tarek, Assistant Programmer at the Ministry of Public Administration. From the opposing panel led by Mr. Mohammad Wahiduzzaman Khan, Senior System Analyst at the Cabinet Division, only one candidate, Md. Abadul Haque Rubel, Assistant Programmer at the Cabinet Division, won uncontested.
