Bangladesh’s young cubs made their mark on the second Test against Pakistan on Monday, romping through the Pakistan order and leaving the Tigers with a tempting chase of 185 to complete a series whitewash.
Fast medium bowler Hasan Mahmud added another three scalps to the quick wickets he snatched at the end of play on Sunday to end with figures of 5-43, while pacer Nahid Rana racked up an impressive 4-44 in Rawalpindi.
The two tore through the hosts’ top order before a valiant effort by allrounder Salman Agha (47*) and stubborn persistence from wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan (43) steadied the innings and took Pakistan to 172.
Bangladesh now have a bit more than a day to chase down a manageable target of 185 to secure victory, reports bdnews24.com.
They will hope to avoid the collapse of the top order from the first innings, which had put them in real trouble before heroics from Litton Das (138) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78) took them a few runs shy of Pakistan’s first innings total.
The Tigers triumphed over Pakistan in the first Test in Rawalpindi by 10 wickets. It was the national side’s first Test win over Pakistan.
