From a FIDE Master to an International Master, Narayanganj's young talent Monon Reza Neer, has achieved a remarkable feat.
Just last July, at the mere age of 14, he clinched the national championship.
Now, he has broken Grandmaster Niyaz Morshed's record to become the youngest International Master in the country.
Monon secured 6 points out of 8 games in the Grandmaster tournament currently underway in Hungary.
This achievement marks his third and final international norm.
At the tender age of 14 years and 3 months, he has earned the prestigious title of International Master.
Previously, legendary chess player Niyaz Morshed had achieved the same title at the age of 15 years and 5 months.
To become an International Master, a player needs a rating of 2400 and three norms.
Monon's rating is now over 2400, so he won't have to wait to officially receive the title. Moreover, if he defeats Hungary's Pécs Blázs today, he will also secure his first Grandmaster norm.
