Bangladesh clinched a dominant 217-run victory over Ireland in the second Test in Mirpur, sealing a 2-0 series whitewash.
Chasing an improbable target of 509, Ireland were bowled out for 291 on Sunday despite a dogged 259-ball 71 from Curtis Campher, who held firm even as wickets tumbled around him. His resistance ultimately delayed, but could not prevent, Bangladesh’s march to victory.
Spinners once again dictated the contest for the hosts, sharing nine wickets in the second inning. Taijul Islam, who earlier in the match became the country’s leading Test wicket-taker, added another milestone as he surpassed 250 Test wickets on the final day. The left-arm spinner finished with 4–104, removing Irish captain Andy Balbirnie, Paul Stirling, Stephen Doheny and Andy McBrine.
Young left-arm spinner Hasan Murad matched Taijul’s scalps with 4–44, including the final wicket of Matthew Humphreys. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the other wicket, bowling Jordan Neill after his counterattacking 30.
The Tigers had won the series opener in Sylhet by an innings and 47 runs.
