Only a few days after South Africa lifted the World Test Championship, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are taking to the field for a fresh start to the competition as the Tigers win the toss and choose to bat.

The match between the two sides at the Galle International Cricket Stadium is the first of the 2025-2027 World Test Championships.

The match began at 10:30 am Bangladesh time on Tuesday.

Bangladesh did not win a single match in the first iteration of the Test tournament. In the second, they won one match but remained at the bottom of the standings. But in the 2023-25 tournament, Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s side beat New Zealand, Pakistan twice, and the West Indies to claim seventh spot, according to bdnews24.com.

The weather is another cause of concern as the forecast indicates there may be rain on the first three days of the Test match.

Bangladesh will be playing without all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the starting eleven due to an illness. In his absence, the Tigers will be fielding four specialised bowlers.

Ebadot Hossain will also have to wait longer for his return to international cricket.

Bangladesh Starting XI: Shadman Islam, Anamul Haque, Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana.
