BCB finds ‘misconduct’ by ex-manager in Jahanara Alam case

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) says an independent inquiry has found initial “evidence of inappropriate conduct" by a former high-ranking official following a probe into allegations raised by former Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team captain Jahanara Alam.

In a media statement issued on Wednesday, the board detailed the findings of a five-strong committee tasked with investigating four specific allegations made by Jahanara.

While two of the claims were not substantiated, the committee found evidence of misconduct and harassment involving Md Monjurul Islam, the former selector and manager of the Bangladesh Women’s team.

The investigation was led by Justice Tariq Ul Hakim, a former judge of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division.

The committee reviewed incidents that occurred during the tenure of a previous board.

It noted that the current leadership initiated the probe in November 2025 to ensure transparency.

The panel reportedly determined that some of his actions were inconsistent with professional standards and fell within definitions of misconduct and harassment under relevant Supreme Court guidelines.

The BCB said it has now referred the matter to its legal team, which will examine the findings in line with the board’s zero-tolerance policy on harassment and misconduct.

The statement stressed that the board remains committed to taking appropriate action in accordance with its regulations and national law.

In parallel, the BCB says it has strengthened its institutional safeguards by establishing a formal BCB Complaint Committee in compliance with a 2009 High Court Division judgment.

The body is chaired by BCB director and Women’s Wing Chairperson Rubaba Dowla.

The board added that the committee will work towards creating an independent complaints mechanism and rolling out mandatory awareness training across Bangladesh cricket to promote a safer and more respectful environment.

The BCB said further updates will be provided “in due course”.
