The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a special recognition scheme to honour all current and former international captains of the men’s and women’s national teams with a dedicated Captains Card.
In a media statement, the board said President Tamim Iqbal will formally hand over the special edition privilege cards at an event in Dhaka on Thursday evening.
The initiative is aimed at recognising players who have led Bangladesh at the international level across formats, reports bdnews24.com.
A former national captain said he received a phone call from Tamim a few days earlier inviting him to the programme.
“Tamim called a few days ago. He did not go into detail, but only said there will be a small event for captains and asked me to be present. He spoke very warmly, and I agreed to attend. Later I received the official invitation from the BCB,” the former captain said over the phone.
According to the board, the Captains Card will serve as a lifetime access pass allowing recipients to enter all venues across the country during international matches without requiring regular tickets.
The card will be issued to every player who has led Bangladesh in at least one international match.
Traditionally, former captains receive complimentary tickets from the board, but the new card is designed as a formal recognition of their contribution to national cricket.
Sources in the Cricket Operations department said Tamim personally contacted several captains ahead of the announcement.
There is also discussion within the board about issuing a separate “health card” for former captains above the age of 50, although this has not been formally confirmed.
