A valiant stand from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Jaker Ali have renewed Bangladeshi hopes after the loss of three early wickets in the Mirpur Test against South Africa on Wednesday.
Kagiso Rabada struck early in the day, sending back both set batsmen, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim, within three deliveries.
Litton Das followed soon after, unable to withstand Keshav Maharaj’s spin.
But Mehidy and Jaker have fought on, hoping to save the Tigers from an innings defeat. At the end of 53 overs, Bangladesh were at 177-6, trailing the Proteas by 25 runs. Mehidy was at 42*, while Jaker was on 21*.
Their undefeated partnership at 65* is already the highest seventh-wicket stand the Tigers have ever put up against South Africa.
