As Bangladesh prepares to host the Women’s T20 World Cup in October, recent political turmoil has raised concerns about the country’s ability to successfully stage the event.

But the newly-appointed Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan remained optimistic about hosting the event in Bangladesh.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly considering alternative venues, including the UAE, India, and Sri Lanka, in light of the unrest, reports UNB.

However, Asif Mahmud, in a statement to a national daily, emphasized his commitment to ensuring the tournament stays in Bangladesh.

He noted that moving the event elsewhere would be detrimental to the nation's image, especially during this critical period of rebuilding.

Asif Mahmud expressed confidence in the interim government, led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who he believes will provide the necessary support.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already reached out to the military for assistance in ensuring security during the tournament.
