Real Madrid have secured their 35th La Liga title with a 4-0 win over Espanyol.

The season has been a stellar one for Real Madrid where they outclassed their domestic rivals by a great margin.

With 4 games to play, they are 17 points ahead of second-placed Sevilla with 81 points. They also have far superior goals for and goal difference than the rest. A convincing performance by Carlo Ancelloti’s men with many players stepping up and bringing their A-game.

Karim Benzema has been the star man throughout the season and to many, the best player in Europe this season. He was made club captain this season and that seemed to boost his performance.

He has scored 26 goals and made 11 assists in 29 appearances this season. He is leading both the top scorer’s and top assists chart in La Liga. He has crossed 40 goals in all competitions for the first time in his career. He has been the player of the season for Real Madrid.

Benzema has been well supported by Vinicius Jr upfront with his blistering pace and great take on ability. He has been the revelation of Real Madrid this season with 14 goals and 12 assists in La Liga.

Coming to midfield, Luka Modric has been the magician like always even at the age of 36. With a pass success rate of 90 per cent and great game controlling ability, Modric dictated Real Madrid’s play throughout the season.

Casemiro was there to hold the midfield and Toni Kroos with his ever-consistent passing range held the team together.

Eder Militao has been the best defender for Real Madrid this season with a rating of 6.99 whole throughout the season and averaging 3.1 tackles and interceptions per 90.

David Alaba, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy had been the mainstays in defence other than him.

Sevilla had been the main challenge for Real Madrid throughout the season alongside Athletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Though the other title contenders had consistency issues, Madrid maintained a high level of consistency.

Even though the 4-0 home loss in the Clasico created a slight bump on the way and Barcelona threatened to pose a title challenge. But Madrid bounced back and kept on winning while Barcelona dropped points.

The job is not finished yet though for Real Madrid as they look to finish the season on a high with good performance in the remaining games.

Plus this title confirmation enables them to put all their focus on the Champions League tie against Manchester City where they trail 4-3. But with 3 away goals and the next leg to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu, it’s anyone’s game.

Real Madrid would look to carry on the momentum from this triumph and subsequently go towards European success. For now, they are the Champions of Europe.
