Fed Cup Football: Abahani, Mohammedan, Sk Russel, Sk Jamal reach quarterfinals

Dhaka Abahani on Wednesday confirmed a berth in the quarterfinals, along with Mohammedan SC, after beating Muktijoddha Sangsad in the Federation Cup Football 2020.

With the 2-1 win at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the Group D encounter, Abahani emerged group champions, securing full six points from straight two matches, reports UNB.

The Sky Blue Brigade will play Uttar Baridhara Club in the fourth quarterfinals on Monday at 4pm.

Dhaka Mohammedan, which earned a 4-1 victory over Muktijoddha in the previous match, was counting on Abahani’s win in today’s match to secure a berth in the quarterfinals.

The Black and Whites will play the second quarterfinals against Group B champions Saif SC on Saturday.

In the day’s last Group D match, Afghan booter Masih and Haitian footballer Belfort scored for Abahani, one in each half, while Rohit Sarkar netted one for Muktijoddha.

In the day’s other match, Sheikh Russel KC clinched the Group A title, defeating Sheikh Jamal DC by 3-2 at the same venue.

Asrorov, Ugochukwu and Toklis Ahmed scored one each for the winners, who dominated the first half 2-0. And Solomon King netted two goals for the losing side, in the second half.

Group A champions Sheikh Russel will play Chittagong Abahani in the first quarterfinals on Friday while Group A runners-up Sheikh Jamal DC will take on Bashundhara Kings in the third quarterfinals on Sunday.
