The government is reportedly pushing for a leadership reshuffle at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as tensions rise over the current administration led by BCB President Faruk Ahmed, as per local media reports.
According to sources, a message was relayed to Faruk Ahmed on behalf of Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, requesting him to step down from his position. The communication, delivered a day earlier, was part of a broader initiative to initiate change at the top of the BCB.
However, Faruk Ahmed has firmly rejected the suggestion of voluntary resignation. In a statement issued earlier on Thursday, he declared that he would not step down of his own accord.
The standoff intensified as eight BCB directors submitted a formal no-confidence motion against the president, plunging the board into deeper crisis. In a letter addressed to the Youth and Sports Ministry Adviser, the directors levelled serious allegations against Ahmed, accusing him of unilateral decision-making on key issues, engaging in a pattern of irresponsible behaviour, and running the board in an autocratic manner.
The no-confidence motion was signed by eight prominent board members: Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Mahbub Anam, Fahim Sinha, Saiful Alam Chowdhury, Mohammad Manzur Alam, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Kazi Inam Ahmed, and Salauddin Chowdhury.
Observers say the internal conflict has exposed significant fractures within the country’s cricket administration. The outcome of this power struggle could lead to a major shake-up in the governance of Bangladesh cricket, potentially reshaping the future of the BCB.
