Virat Kohli solidified his reign as the true king of ODI cricket, achieving his 50th century in the format on Wednesday in Mumbai.

In the first semifinal of the World Cup 2023, India batted first after winning the toss, making a brisk start with the contributions of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

Virat entered the wicket after Gill retired hurt due to a leg injury.

He reached the milestone off 105 balls, surpassing the long-held record of most centuries in the format previously held by Sachin Tendulkar for years.

Sachin had amassed 49 centuries in 463 matches, while Kohli accomplished this feat in just 291 matches and 288 innings.

When Kohli reached the history-shattered hundred, Tendulkar was clapping for him in the Mumbai gallery. Alongside him, more cricketers and Bollywood stars celebrated Virat Kohli's 50th century. His wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma was also spotted in the gallery. In the same match, Kohli surpassed Tendulkar's record for the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup.

In 2003, Tendulkar scored 673 runs. On Wednesday, Kohli exceeded it becoming the batsman with the most runs in a World Cup.
