Mashrafe rues batting error

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said that the team’s batting error against New Zealand in their second World Cup match was bigger than the fumble of Mushfiqur Rahim behind the wicket.

Tigers lost the match by two wickets in spite of posting a moderate total of 244 on the board. However, bowlers kept the things tight for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh started their World Cup campaign with a clinical victory over the Proteas but in their second game, they were shaky with the bat and defective in the field.

“I don’t think we should go after Mushi (Mushfiqur). That throw was straight to the stumps. But as a wicketkeeper, it’s always tough to decide if it was straight or not. He wanted to pick the ball first and then break the stumps but suddenly his elbow disturbed the bell. It was a mistake. No one wants to make this mistake,” Mashrafe told the media after the match.

He also said that the batting error was a bigger reason for their defeat.

Mushfiqur missed the run-out of Kane Williamson. At the time, he was on eight, and he ended up scoring 40. Had Mushfiqur ran him out successfully, the match could have gone Tigers’ way.

Bangladesh bowled well in the match. Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mosaddek Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin took two wickets each.

At the end of the game, New Zealand were in deep trouble. Mosaddek and Saifuddin made their work tough with the ball. However, the below-par score did not help the bowlers much.

Bangladesh will take on England in their next game on June 8 at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Mashrafe said they are now focusing on that game instead of putting too much attention on the loss against New Zealand.
