Oman won the inaugural match of the T20 World Cup 2021 against Papua New Guinea by 10 wickets.

The unbeaten partnership between the Oman openers -- Jatinder Singh and Aqib Ilyas has ensured an emphatic victory for the host team.

On a very good batting wicket, it was an easy task assigned for the Oman batsmen. Especially, considering the fashion in which both the openers started taking the bowlers on from the beginning, Oman looked as if they were in a hurry to catch the bus to the hotel room.

Indeed, Oman capitalised on the chance to secure a healthy net run rate.

Earlier, Papua New Guinea adjusted well after losing both the openers inside the first two overs. A mammoth partnership of 81 between local talent Assad Vala and Charles Amini guided PNG to a safe shore.

However, after Assad's dismissal, the PNG batting unit collapsed and could only set a target of 130 for the hosts. Assad Vala scored a captain's innings of 56 from 43 balls for the PNG.

His efforts worked little for PNG as Oman cruised past the debutant team in the blink of an eye.

Both the captains shone as Oman skipper Zeeshan Maqsood took 4 wickets in the first innings. He was adjudged man of the match for his contribution with the ball.
