Rangpur Riders have reached the final of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) beating Comilla Vikings by 36 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Monday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first on Sunday, the Mashrafee-led Rangpur outfit got off to a shaky start by loosing hard-hitting Caribbean Chris Gayle for just 27 runs on the board in the fifth over.

However, the match couldn’t proceed on the scheduled day due to incessant rain and had to be rescheduled for Monday.

Rangpur’s Johnson Charles top-scored with a brilliant 105* (balls: 65, 4sX9, 6sX7) to help them reach a commanding total.

Kiwi Brendon McCullum chipped in with another excellent knock of 78 off just 46 deliveries (4sX1, 6sX9).

In reply, the Tamim-led Comilla outfit got off to a strong start managing 54 runs in the 5th over.

But the departure of swashbuckling Bangladeshi opener dented their run chase.

Liton Das made a good contribution but wickets fell like nine pins and eventually managed to score a total of 156 losing all wickets.

Liton Das scored 39 (28 balls, 4sX3, 6sX2) while Tamim scored 36 runs (19 balls, 4sX6, 6sX1).

Rangpur’s local pacer Rubel Hossain took 3/34 to help script the victory.

Johnson Charles was adjudged player of the match for his scintillating knock.
