Shakib must clarify his political stance: Sports adviser

The youth and sports adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has stated that cricketer Shakib Al Hasan must clarify his political stance.

“We need to remember that Shakib Al Hasan has two identities: he is a player and, on the other hand, he is also a politician who has been active in politics for the Awami League. As a player, he will receive the necessary security”, the adviser said.

He made the remarks at a ceremony held on Sunday for the handover of Grameenphone's dividend check to the Workers' Welfare Fund.

When asked about the discussions surrounding Shakib Al Hasan and his request for security from the BCB, the adviser mentioned that the BCB has issued a statement on this matter.

He emphasised that the state is obliged to provide security to every citizen, and this will definitely be ensured.

"If there is public resentment due to Shakib Al Hasan's political identity, then it is up to him to address it", adviser Asif added.
