Shakib Al Hasan has been hospitalised with a finger infection on return from Dubai where he was ruled out of the Asia Cup for the injury.

He set off for home on Wednesday and was awaiting a decision for a surgery but had to be admitted to the Apollo Hospitals in Dhaka on Thursday as the condition of the left little finger worsened.

He had a surgery on the finger at the hospital but may need one more, according to his Facebook post.

The ace all-rounder has urged his supporters to keep him in their prayers, saying he wants to return to action soon, according to bdnews24.com.

“I never realised things will be this bad when I left the team and returned home,” he wrote.

Shakib had injured the finger of his bowling arm during the tri-nation series final match at Mirpur last January.

He joined the team for Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka after recovery, but began to feel the pain again during the West Indies trip. It was then diagnosed that he had a dislocation of finger bone.

Shakib kept on playing in the Asia Cup with pain-relieving injections.

But he was dropped prior to the last match of the Super Four against Pakistan as his condition deteriorated.
