Winning toss, Tigers opt to bat against Sri Lanka in first ODI

Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal has won the toss and opted to bat first against Sri Lanka in the first One Day International of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today (Sunday).

Earlier, doubt had been cast on the series when three members of the Sri Lanka contingent- Shiran Fernando, Isuru Udana and bowling coach Chaminda Vaas tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday night.

But the Bangladesh Cricket Board gave the go-ahead to hold the first ODI when Udana and Vaas returned negative results in the second Covid test on Sunday.

The match will take place as per ICC protocol by isolating the Covid-positive player Fernando who returned positive result twice, according to a BCB official.   

With this series, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and cutter master Mustafizur Rahman are set to make a comeback to the national team after a leave to play the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Bangladesh XI: Tamim Iqbal (capt), Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman.

Sri Lanka XI: Kusal Perera (capt, wk), Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya De Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Ashen Bandara, Wanindu Hasaranga, Isuru Udana, Lakshan Sandakan, Dushmantha Chameera.
