Bourses witness upward trend in early trading

Prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed upward trend in early trading Tuesday as investors are active on sector-wise issues amid ongoing quarterly earnings declarations.

Following the previous nine days’ 256 points correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher, but trading activities remains low.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 18 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 20 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 17 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 26 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 17.23 points or 0.30 per cent to reach at 5,574 points at 11:00am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also advanced 4.46 points or 0.21 per cent to reach at 2,080 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 4.45 points or 0.34 per cent to reach at 1,305 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 427 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 144 advanced, 39 declined and 53 remained unchanged.

United Power was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 46 million changing hands, closely followed by Western Marine Shipyard Tk 41 million, Queen South Textile Tk 33 million, Beximco Tk 22 million and RD Food Tk 18 million.

The port city’s bourse also saw positive trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-advancing 26 points to stand at 17,168, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also gained 16 points to stand at 10,378 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 34 gained, 20 declined and 10 issues remained unchanged with Tk 20 million in turnover.
