BRAC Bank tops weekly turnover chart

Ten companies account for 23pc turnover on DSE

The BRAC Bank generated the highest turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, while ten most-traded companies accounted for more than 23 per cent of the weekly transactions.

Market analysts said investors became active on BRAC Bank shares after the bank reported its quarterly earnings.

As per the earnings release, the unaudited consolidated earnings per share (EPS) of the bank stood at Tk 1.22 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 1.28 for January-March 2018.

The consolidated net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 5.82 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 5.67 for January-March 2018.

The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 34.09 as on March 31, 2019 and Tk 26.21 as on March 31, 2018.

According to the DSE data, 7.86 million shares of BRAC Bank were traded during the week, generating a turnover of Tk 799 million, making up 4.45 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The turnover of the week on the DSE totalled Tk 17.93 billion as against Tk 14.61 billion in the previous week.

The bank's share closed at Tk 60.80 on Thursday, the last trading session of the outgoing week, climbing 7.99 per cent over the previous week.

The bank's share traded between Tk 55 and Tk 90.40 in the last one year.

BRAC Bank, listed on the DSE in 2007, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

The bank's paid-up capital is Tk 12.33 billion, authorised capital is Tk 20 billion and the total number of securities is 1.23 billion.

The sponsor-directors own 44.30 per cent stake in the bank, while institutional investors own 6.93 per cent, foreign investors 42.85 per cent and the general public 5.92 per cent as of April 30, 2019, the DSE data show.

Fortune Shoes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 714 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 37.80 each on Thursday, remaining unchanged over the previous week.

SK Trims Industries clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 566 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 14.55 per cent to close at Tk 50.40 on Thursday.

The United Power emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 339 million changing hands. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 327.60 each, advancing 3.25 per cent.

The IFIC Bank notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 337 million changing hands. The bank's share price fell 0.84 per cent to close at Tk 11.80 each on Thursday.

The turnover of Eastern Cables was Tk 72 million. The company's share closed at Tk 353.70 each, soaring 19.33 per cent over the previous week.

Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of over Tk 295 million. The company's share price advanced 2.21 per cent to close at Tk 235.60 each on Thursday.

The turnover of Doreen Power was Tk 283 million. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 81.60 each, falling 2.39 per cent over the week before.

The Power Grid Company featured a turnover of Tk 262 million. The state-run company's share price inched up 0.16 per cent to close at Tk 61.20 each.

The Prime Finance & Investment also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 249 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 4.76 per cent to close at Tk 11 each on Thursday.
