Dhaka stocks down at opening with low turnover

Dhaka stocks opened lower on Thursday as investors were mostly cautious of the market’s trend due to uncertainties over economic and political issues.

Following the previous day’s modest rise, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went down by 18 points or 0.34 per cent to 5,220 at 12:00 noon, when the report was filed.

The DS30 index, a group of 30 prominent companies, lost 6 points to 1,922 while the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, shed 4 points to 1,168.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, remained low and amounted to Tk 1.47 billion.

Of the issues traded till then, 233 declined, 87 advanced, and 57 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Orion Infusion was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 88 million changing hands.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), however, saw an upward trend with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—gaining 13 points to stand at 14,658 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX gained 7 points to reach 8,920 till then.
