A new chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI) styled 'JCI Dhaka Independent' was launched on Saturday with the mission to provide development opportunities for young professionals and entrepreneurs.

In this regard, a programme was held at a city hotel where a new board of the platform was also formed through a general meeting.

CEO and Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh Tina F Jabeen addressed the programme as the chief guest while ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB) country director Farah Kabir spoke as distinguished guest. Director of Nagad and national president of JCI Bangladesh chapter Niaz Morshed Elite and board members of JCI Dhaka Independent were also present.

After taking the oath, Tasnuva Ahmed took charge as the president of JCI Dhaka Independent and Benazir Rahman as the secretary general.

Welcoming the new board, Farah Kabir said, "Whatever business you do or implement any development project or make policies, the issue of climate change and climate justice should be there."

The development plans taken by the young changemakers should be aligned with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100, she said.

Mr Elite said 18 chapters of JCI had been set up in Bangladesh so far - these chapters can connect young local changemakers with the young leaders across the globe.

Referring that JCI Bangladesh has about a thousand members, he said the platform had been a great place for young professionals and entrepreneurs to share ideas and support each other for inclusive development.

JCI Dhaka Independent President Ms Tasnuva said the new board would solely work to collaborate with other chapters of the JCI to bring positive changes in the society.

She also emphasised working on gender issues and women-led initiatives to reduce disparity.

Other board members of JCI Dhaka Independent include Executive Vice President AA Kais, Vice President Ishrat Sultana, Treasurer Ashfaqur Rahman, Directors Mahfuz Mishu and Hasnaeen Rizvi Rahman.

Correction

It was inadvertently mentioned both in a report and the photo caption published on page 09 of the March 14, 2021, issue of The Financial Express, also carried by The FE Online, under the headline ‘JCI Dhaka Independent starts journey to assist young entrepreneurs’ that the President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Rizwan Rahman, was present at the launching programme of JCI Dhaka Independent.

Actually, Mr Rahman was not present at the event which was held at a city hotel on Saturday evening (March 13).

Besides, in the news it was mentioned that Farah Kabir was the chief guest of the programme and Tina F Jabeen was special guest. Actually Ms Jabeen attended as the chief guest while Ms Kabir as distinguished guest.

The unintentional mistake is regretted.
