Singer tops DSE turnover chart

Ten most traded companies accounted for 32 per cent of the transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with Singer Bangladesh making its way to the top of the turnover chart.

Market analysts said investors were active on Singer Bangladesh shares throughout the day just ahead of its record date.

Trading of the company's shares will remain suspended on its record date, March 24 (Sunday). And the trading of the share will resume the next day.

The board of directors of Singer has recommended 30 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

Singer Bangladesh posted a 40 per cent increase in its operating profit in 2018. Its profit after tax also rose 23 per cent to Tk 920 million for the year ended on December 31, 2018, the company said recently.

The company has also reported consolidated earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 11.96, consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share of Tk 30.13 and consolidated net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) of negative Tk 6.06 for the year ended on December 31, 2018 as against Tk 9.79, Tk 28.17 and Tk 3.12 respectively for the same period of the previous year.

According to statistics from the Dhaka Stock Exchange, about 886,872 shares of Singer Bangladesh were traded on Thursday, generating a turnover of Tk 237 million, which was 6.06 per cent of the prime bourse's total turnover.

The Singer Bangladesh, listed on the DSE in 1983, disbursed 100 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2017.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 766.94 million and authorised capital is Tk 1.0 billion, while the total number of securities is 76.69 million.

Alif Industries came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 171 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 70.60, advancing 1.14 per cent over the previous day.

BATBC clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 168 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.56 per cent to close at Tk 4,658.10 each.

Brac Bank emerged fourth, with shares worth Tk 147 million changing hands. The bank's share closed at Tk 81.70, shedding 1.80 per cent over the previous day.

Monno Ceramic Industries notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 123 million changing hands. The company's share price dropped 1.70 per cent to close at Tk 317.10 each.

The turnover of United Power was Tk 112 million. The power generation company's share price also fell 0.97 per cent to close at Tk 397.40 each.

Dutch-Bangla Basnk featured a turnover of Tk 77 million. The bank's share closed at Tk 205.90 each, losing 2.04 per cent.

The turnover of Rupali Life Insurance was Tk 70 million. The company's share closed at Tk 101.50 each, gaining 0.49 per cent over the previous day.

Shurwid Industries featured a turnover of Tk 69 million. The company's share closed at Tk 38.20 each, advancing 4.37 per cent over the previous session.

Marico Bangladesh also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 68 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 1,655.10, losing 0.15 per cent over the previous day.
