Stock turnover exceeds Tk4b-mark after two hours

Stocks opened marginally higher on Tuesday, with turnover crossing Tk 4.0 billion-mark after two hours of trading, as bargain hunters put fresh bets for general insurance stocks in anticipation of short-term gains.

A section of investors chased for selective general insurance stocks such as Provati Insurance, Asia Insurance, Republic Insurance and Eastern Insurance.

As a result, turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, amounted to Tk 4.43 billion after two hours of trading.

Following the previous day’s flat ending, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 8.75 points to 6,319 after two hours of trading at 12:00 noon.

The DS30 Index, which consists of blue-chip companies, gained 0.70 points to 2,137 and the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, rose 1.38 points to 1,359 till then.

Insurance stocks dominated the turnover list with Provati Insurance topped turnover list with shares worth Tk 218 million changing hands till then, followed by Asia Insurance, Republic Insurance and Eastern Insurance.

Of the issues traded till then, 74 advanced, 73 declined and 135 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened higher with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – rising 23 points to 18,670 till then.
