Stocks witnessed choppy trading in the early hours of Monday as investors were mostly cautious amid a lack of clear market direction.
Following the previous day’s positive trend, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 1.30 points to 6,309 after two hours of trading at 12:00 noon.
The DS30 Index, which consists of blue-chip companies, also shed 1.54 points to 2,139 and the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, lost 0.76 points to 1,362.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, amounted to Tk 3.75 billion after two hours of trading.
The insurance stocks dominated the turnover chart with Crystal Insurance was the most-traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 225 million changing, followed by Metro Spinning, Rupali Life Insurance, Republic Insurance and Meghna Life Insurance.
Of the issues traded till then, 68 declined, 72 advanced, and 154 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
However, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), opened higher with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – rising 4 points to 18,654 till then.
