Stocks opened higher on Thursday as investors showed their buying interest in selective issues.

Following the previous day’s gain, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 7.32 points or 0.11 per cent to 6,395, after the first hour of trading at 10:30am.

Two other DSE indices saw a positive trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, gained 1.0 points to 2,245 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 2.0 points to 1,401.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 4.34 billion after the first hour of trading at 10:30 am.

Market operators said the bourses opened higher, riding on the price appreciation in some selective stocks amidst the earnings declarations.

The investors showed their interest in some sector-specific issues which were being traded at a lucrative price level amidst the ongoing earnings declarations, said a stockbroker.

The market witnessed a rising Turnover as purchasing stocks before cheque encashment issue was solved, said the stockbroker.

Most of the traded issues, however, remained unchanged due to the ‘floor price’ restriction. Of the issues traded, 83 advanced, 67 declined and 158 issues remained unchanged on the DSE.

Lub-rref (Bangladesh) was the most traded stock till the filing of this report with shares worth Tk 395 million changing hands.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also opened higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—rising 30 points to stand at 18,834 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX  – gained 18 points to reach 11,287, also at 10:30 am.

Of the issues traded till then, 48 gained, 31 declined and 71 remained unchanged with Tk 84 million.
