Stocks open mixed after long Eid vacation

Stocks opened with a mixed trend on Sunday, the opening session after a 10-day Eid vacation.

The market remained closed from June 5 to June 14, including weekly holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Following the previous session's upward trend, Dhaka bourse opened on a positive note while the port city bourse saw downward trend in early trading.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, went up by more than 4.0 points or 0.07 per cent to 4712, after the first hour of trading at 11:00 am, when the report was filed.

Market analysts said the lucrative price level of fundamentally sound stocks attracted bargain hunters while some investors followed a cautious stance amid Middle East crisis.

However, the majority of investors remained cautious amid the prevailing volatility in the market, said a leading broker.

The DS30 index, which consists of blue-chip companies, gained 6 points to 1,768 while the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, fell 3.0 points to 1,025 till then.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market remained low and stood at Tk 800 million till then.

Of the issues traded, 88 saw appreciation and 185 witnessed price fall, while  83 remained unchanged.

Lovello Ice-cream was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 129 million changing hands till then.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange, however, saw a negative trend till then with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—losing 10 points to 13,129 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX dropped 8 points to 8,014 till then.
